It allows the DVD player to transfer digital video and audio signals directly to an HDMI equipped monitor or projector, instead of having to convert them to analog. This player plays discs recorded in the MP3, JPEG, DivX and WMA formats. This multi channel music formats provide a surround sound music experience that is much more natural and lifelike than normal stereo. Additionally it is compatible with recordings on PAL or NTSC and region 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 ,7, 8, 9, 0 DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R (including DL), DVD+RW, CD-R, and CD-RW discs. MP3, WMA, JPEG, and DivX files recorded on all the above mentioned recordable discs are also supported.
Inputs/Outputs
HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface): Output
digital video and multi-channel audio using one cable.
Component Video Output: The DVD-S1800 features a
component video output, capable of passing a progressive scan signal or
an interlaced video signal. If the component output is to be used, the
HDMI output must be turned off.
Composite/S-Video: For connecting to TVs with only
composite or S-Video inputs, this unit provides one composite video and
one S-Video output jack.
Digital Audio Outputs: This unit features two digital
audio outputs, one optical and one coaxial. These can be connected to an
A/V receiver, amplifier, surround decoder (Dolby Digital, DTS), or
other component with digital input.
5.1-Channel Audio Outputs: The DVD-S1800 offers
5.1-channel analog output for multi-channel DVD-Audio and SACD playback,
as well as when using the built-in Dolby Digital or DTS processor.
2-Channel Audio Outputs: In addition to the 5.1-channel
analog outputs, the unit features a stereo audio output for connecting
to a stereo analog input on a TV or receiver. Even when the source audio
is multi-channel (Dolby Digital, DTS, DVD-Audio, SACD), these jacks
will output a down-mixed 2-channel signal.
Remote: 3.5mm jacks are included for remote input and
remote output, for use with other compatible Yamaha components.
RS-232C Port: Connects to the RS-232 port on a
compatible external controller, allowing control of this player using
outboard remote systems

NSV This technology, from Analog Devices, uses
oversampling and advanced techniques such as multi-bit sigma-delta
processing and bitshuffling to improve converter performance by moving
converter noise to an area of the spectrum where it can be removed by an
analog filter. This improves the accuracy of signal representation,
allowing images to be displayed at much higher resolutions. |

DVD-Audio / Super
Audio CD Ready DVD-Audio is an
extension of the highly popular DVD format, distinguished by its
capability to deliver high quality multi-channel audio capability
previously unavailable in traditional packaged audio media. |
|
Super Audio CD DVD Players that support Super Audio CD use a
technology called Direct Stream Digital (DSD) to convert music into a
digital signal that can be stored on a disc. Compared to the traditional
PCM method (the technology used for CD), DSD offers a much higher
resolution by following more closely the original waveform of music.
With a frequency response of over 100kHz and a dynamic range over 120dB
across the audible frequency range – some 64 times higher resolution
then CD - Super Audio CD offers music reproduction that reveals details
you just can’t hear on a normal CD. |

CD Digital Video DVD Players equipped with CD Digital Video
capabilities will be able to play video and sound media that has been
compressed together and recorded onto a CD disc. |

Video CD DVD Players equipped with Video CD capabilities
will be able to play video and sound media that has been compressed
together using the MPEG 1 standard, and recorded onto a CD disc. |

HDMI HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is
the first and only industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital
audio/video interface. With the ability to deliver crystal-clear,
all-digital audio and video via a single cable, HDMI dramatically
simplifies cabling and helps provide consumers with the highest-quality
home theater experience. HDMI can provide an interface between any
audio/video source, such as a set-top box, DVD player, or A/V receiver
and an audio and/or video monitor, such as a digital television (DTV),
over a single cable.
Depending on the model of product, HDMI can
support standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus
multi-channel digital audio on a single cable . It can transmit all ATSC
HDTV standards and supports 8-channel, 192kHz, uncompressed digital
audio and all currently-available compressed formats (such as Dolby
Digital and DTS), newer HDMI devices can support HDMI 1.3 technology
which adds additional support for new lossless digital audio formats
Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™.

DCDi TM (Directional
Correlational Deinterlacing) Invented
and patented by Faroudja, Directional Correlational De interlacing
(DCDi), virtually alleviates jagged oblique lines that appear when
standard interlaced video is viewed on progressive scan displays,
enabling the reproduction of beautiful, natural-looking moving images. |
|
Dolby Digital The most popular 5.1-channel home theater sound
system. An improvement over Dolby Pro-Logic in that it offers: 1) Full
frequency response in all channels (3Hz — 20kHz), 2) discrete surround
channels, and 3) a separate track for bass only, called the Low
Frequency Effects channel. |

DivX DivX is the video compression codec developed by
DivX Networks and based on the MPEG-4 compression format. Its balance of
high video quality and low bit rate has made it very popular and
quickly established it as the best home video format thus far. The
ability to play it on newer DVD models continues to add to its
popularity as DivX Networks advances its support to many new household
products. This compression technology has the potential for expanding
the ways we view video media in much the way MP3 has given us many new
ways to listen to music. | High Sound Quality
